A friend from China introduced me to this recipe, and we’ve loved it ever since!
1. In a shallow dish, combine the flour, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika.
2. In another bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk.
3. Dip each piece of chicken into the egg mixture, then coat with the flour mixture, pressing to adhere.
4. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Fry the chicken pieces in batches until golden brown and cooked through, about 6-8 minutes per side. Drain on paper towels.
5. In a small saucepan, combine honey, soy sauce, and minced garlic. Bring to a simmer over medium heat.
6. In a small bowl, mix cornstarch and water to make a slurry. Stir into the honey garlic sauce and cook until thickened.
7. Toss the fried chicken in the honey garlic sauce until well coated.
8. Serve the chicken on a platter and garnish with chopped green onions or chives.
Variations & Tips
For a spicier kick, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the honey garlic sauce. If you prefer a gluten-free version, use gluten-free flour for coating the chicken. For a lighter option, you can bake the chicken instead of frying it; just coat the chicken as directed and bake at 400°F for about 25-30 minutes or until cooked through. For picky eaters, you can serve the sauce on the side, allowing each person to dip their chicken as they like.
