Directions
Measure the pillow you want to cover and add an inch to each side for seam allowance.
Select scrap fabrics that complement each other. You can use a single piece or patchwork multiple pieces together.
Cut the fabric according to your measurements. For a standard pillow, you will need two pieces of fabric.
Place the fabric pieces right sides together and pin them along the edges.
Sew around the edges with a 1/2 inch seam allowance, leaving one side open for inserting the pillow.
Trim any excess fabric from the seams and corners to reduce bulk.
Turn the pillowcase right side out and press it with an iron for a crisp finish.
Insert the pillow into the case and sew the open edge closed by hand or machine, or add a zipper or buttons for a removable cover.

Variations & Tips
To add variety to your pillowcases, consider using different types of closures such as zippers, buttons, or envelope flaps. You can also embellish the pillowcases with lace, embroidery, or appliqué for added texture and interest. If you prefer a more uniform look, use fabrics in similar color palettes or patterns. For a seasonal touch, choose fabrics that reflect the current season or holiday themes. Don’t be afraid to experiment with different shapes and sizes, such as lumbar or bolster pillows, to diversify your collection.
